

Chemie Ching
Ching Ka Wai (Chemie) has recently earned her Doctor of Musical Arts in Saxophone Performance at Michigan State University under the tutelage of Joseph Lulloff. Prior to studying abroad in the United States, she built a private studio in Hong Kong teaching students of various ages and playing levels. She has also performed with professional ensembles including Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra, Hong Kong Sinfonietta and the Hong Kong Wind Philharmonia.
As the founding member of Dasch Quartet, Ching won the North American Saxophone Alliance Saxophone Quartet Competition and the ENKÖR Chamber Music Competition. In March 2016, Dasch Quartet released its first CD Necessary Edges. Dasch Quartet has also given recitals and masterclasses at institutions including Brevard Music Center, Northwestern University and Roosevelt University. She was also the baritone saxophonist of the Auteur Saxophone Quartet, who was named winner of the 2015 Coltman Chamber Music Competition and was featured guest artist in Austin Chamber Music Festival 2016.
In addition to classical music, Ching maintains a great interest in jazz. At the Michigan State University, she took jazz lessons with Michael Dease and jazz improvisation with Randy Napoleon. She was a member of the MSU jazz orchestras, jazz octet and jazz combo. Through playing in the ensembles, she has performed with renowned jazz musicians such as Peter Bernstein, Anat Cohen, Christian McBride and Rufus Reid.
Ching earned her Bachelor’s Degree from the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts and Master’s Degree from the University of North Carolina School of the Arts studying with Taimur Sullivan.
